Ball of Foot Pain
What is Ball of Foot Pain?
Each day we put a lot of weight through the ball of the foot, which can overstress one or more structures in the soles of our feet.
Day-to-day activities and ageing will lead to deterioration in the pad in the ball of the foot that cushions joints, ligaments, bones, and nerves.
High heels, narrow shoes, sport, repetitive activities, weight gain, structural deformities such as high arches, long metatarsal bone, or hallux valgus (bunion) can overload and inflame joints and cause stress fractures. Damage, splits, and tears in ligaments (Plantar Plate Disruption) can lead to hammer toes. Pinched nerves (Neuroma) and bursitis can cause pain, burning, tingling, and numbness in the ball of the foot.
